Ons Dorpshuis celebrated on the 26th of September the birth of Ben Pieter – our owners, Alna and Kobus van der Walt’s first Grandchild.

Congratulations to the parents, Hanneke and Freddie de Beer – so many happy and wonder-filled times ahead for you both…a boy will always treat his mother as a Queen and his father as his number one Hero!

WELL DONE!!

We the staff from Ons Dorpshuis wish Ben Pieter de Beer and the extended van der Walt family a blessed bright, joyful and a peaceful, healthy future.

In 2017, I also became a first time grandmother – little Emma is our family Sunshine. Every time I see Emma, her growth and developments excite me, from crawling to the walking, from mumbling to talking and discovering her little personality, brings so much joy in my life. With the growth of our children and grandchildren we also can grow into aging gracefully.

In a few days I will be celebrating my Birthday and I feel that the older I get the more comfortable I feel in my skin. Is aging really that bad? I think it’s a matter of your own life’s philosophy and not the mind manipulators in the marketing and advertising world.

If you follow the advertising and marketing gurus, aging should be avoided and has a negative connotation to life. Just have a short look at Cosmetics, you will see uncountable product labels like: Anti-Aging, Aging-Defence, Age-Protection, and Anti-Wrinkle – the list is endless!

Aging is much more than just wrinkles, grey hair or aching joints and bones – IT’S A BLESSING OF LIFE!

It is suggested to us that the young, the energetic and successful people are what the corporates are looking for, however the reality is different. Without the knowledge, experience and wisdom of the elders, the youngsters would stay in the dark and the economy and society would be put under pressure even more.

If you think about it, you reach a point in your existence that allows you to see the growth of your children and grandchildren, and with the passage of time, we often gain perspective and we realise life is too short to sweat the small stuff. The times that truly matter are the joyful moments we spend with those we love.

Let’s age gracefully by bringing more joy and happiness into your life, living fully and mindfully in the present. Love yourself endlessly and enjoy every moment of your existence and look forward to the future.

That’s it for now

Take care

Cecilia

Home Sweet Home…What is a home?

Many people think a home is where family of the same blood stays together, but my own view to a home is that of a secure place, a cheerful place, where you are loved and respected!

When I started working at Ons Dorpshuis Guesthouse, it was like a worst nightmare to me.

I had no courage and an inexperienced person I never knew that greener are the pastures that were to follow.

As a foreigner, I was thinking that I am the most underrated person at work, but I also know a quote that says,

“It’s a chameleon that changes colour to match the earth, the earth never changes colour to match the Chameleon.”

In time I grew into my purpose and gained confidence, because opportunities were up for grabs and open for all.

Ons Dorpshuis is a place where there is no racism and nationalism.

Everyone here is just the same no matter what the differences.

We work together to make Ons Dorpshuis Guesthouse your other home. The services and all staff members are there to serve you, our honoured guests.

I hope you become a part our

Ons Dorpshuis Family!

Happy heritage month to everyone

Patience and persistence.

Human traits that will make you a well-rounded, well liked, successful and happy human being.

In my opinion patience and persistence are the two most important traits one can have. Patience can offer you help in days times when your 8 year old thinks they know everything!

When you are in traffic and no one is obeying the rules and your blood pressure shoots up. Use your patience to bring yourself back down to earth and know, it’s just traffic and not worth your health.

When you are in a long distance relationship and his homecoming seems a lifetime away. Patience is not defined by how long you wait, but how you behave while you’re waiting.

Persistence is your best friend when you have goals to achieve. No matter how many times you get knocked down, the point is you are trying and you get back up again to try once more and you have not given up. That is persistence. Go for that promotion, even if it takes you 10 years and 10 different courses. Patience will also help you here when a colleague gets their promotion before you. Remember, they may have been on their own journey longer than you and it is their time to shine. Sometimes it takes decades to achieve a goal, but the day you make your last payment on your bond and can say “This home is mine and I worked hard for it” Your persistence is what got you there.

As a very wise lady in my life tells us often, “As a manager, if you are not looking for change and improvement, what are you doing?” You are the manager of your own life, your own body, your own happiness. For me this “mantra” applies to each and every one of us in own personal journeys too. Patience and persistence are key to achieving change and improvement. Make conscious choices on a daily basis to be better, do more. Be persistent in your goals and have the patience to know that it will not happen overnight.

Here at Dorpshuis there has been a big shift in healthier living and boy-o-boy does that journey take massive amounts of patience and persistence. I woke up and gymed this morning, why don’t I have a six pack yet? :p Be patient with yourself and try sometimes to look back to see how far you have come and not always how far you have still to go. Give yourself the recognition for surviving bad days, weeks, months, years. Give yourself the pat on the back that you didn’t give up and are many steps closer to your goal than you were last year. Have patience with yourself but combine it with persistence so that patience doesn’t become a cover up for taking too long to take the steps you need towards your goals.

It doesn’t get easier, you just get better

It would not be a June newsletter without paying tribute to all the amazing Dad’s in our lives. To the Dads who work hard, thank you for being the rock of our families and providing love, stability and care to us as your families.

Thank you dad for teaching us patience and persistence in the way you live. I will be celebrating Father’s Day this year as a single mom playing the roles of Mom and Dad in my household.

From learning to pitch a tent alone so I can give my boy experiences that he needs from a father figure to taking him out on “dates” to learn how to treat a lady. It is the most fulfilling experience albeit a very tough one to be able to say,

I and I alone have shaped this little man into the amazing person that he is.

To all the Moms out there playing both roles, I salute you

We are not family but yet we are

Welcome to each and every person here this week, joining as a guest, our very unique family, here at Ons Dorpshuis Guesthouse. I want to try and express what it is like to be part of something this exceptional.

First and foremost, don’t think you can walk in here and just mind your own business. Before you can say “I’m not into that”,

you are involved in it, part of it and you are loving it. Working at Ons Dorpshuis, you will always be part of something bigger than yourself.

Your happiness is everybody’s happiness. It doesn’t matter whether you finally went for your eye test and received your spectacles,

passed your driver’s license or if you managed to buy a house; we will have a celebration.

Your sadness is not yours alone. Do not think you can shed a tear around a corner where nobody will notice. Without fuss or fanfare somebody will appear and they will give you a shoulder to cry on.

You will always find a buddy here who will try to help you roll that rock out of your way, brainstorm a solution for your problems or to give you advice.

And guaranteed, if they cannot help they will find you somebody who can.

Finally, I can promise you that if you got out of bed on the wrong side, someone at Ons Dorpshuis, will turn your frown upside down.

So no, we are not related by blood, but we are connected by the ethereal thread of compassion and humanity.

This makes us a very special type of a family.

I love being part of this and I love each and every person who works with me because we are always ready to protect and support each other, no matter what.

Ons Dorpshuis Guesthouse brings all of us together and gives us this very special, safe place to belong. We cannot help but to carry this culture further; letting our guests experience this camaraderie…

yes, tonight, booked in here… this is

YOUR PLACE IN THE WORLD

My mother named me, when I was born. She gave me a name, and it means “the comforter”. When a child is born, like in most African cultures the name of a child must have meaning,

descriptive of the situation your parent have gone through or hopes they have for their child.

My name comes from the fact that my mother bore my sister first instead of a son. Having a girl child as a first born was shunned. Hence, it was a difficult 3 years until I was born, and voilà it was a son, the comforter of her life.

Needless to say, I am more like my mother than my father and my sister more my father than my mother.

There were times in our lives when we hung to every word our mothers said to us. If there was a word of God made incarnate, it was my mother’s voice. I clung to every word she said, and did as she asked.

The people she liked, I liked too.

The food she loved, I loved too. If my mother cried, I cried too and if she was sad I was sad with her.

I think a large chunk of our untainted memories involve the woman who love or loved us unconditionally, the woman we call our mother figures.

For 9 months we lived through and off them in their wombs. Even as adults our world view and temperaments are shaped mainly by our mothers. How we handle our problems, how we treat others, how empathetic we are,

is because of that woman who had sleepless nights when we were sick. That woman who heard your first words, that woman who saw you crawl and walk for the first time.

That woman, that picked you up every time you fell.

I see it befitting and proper that we celebrate Mother’s Day as the mother of all days in our lives. In happiness, sickness, crazy moments, come rain, thunder or shine, our MOTHERS will always be our mothers.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the woman all over the world!!

How many of you sometimes sit and watch the animal channel? We then hear that famous line they love to use, “Only the strong survive!” and it hits you straight between the eyes.

Let me tell you the strong needs a hug!!

The world sometimes just becomes too much and you feel like you are being pulled into 90 different directions. Bills, family, friends, responsibilities to name but a view and if you are like me you are the dependable type.

Everyone has gotten so use to you always being there and they don’t have to worry because you will find a way…

What do you do to stray strong and continue?

Do you go out? Do you go dancing? Do you go walking? Do you go skinny dipping to forget about all the fuddy duddies telling you that you can’t or you shouldn’t?

Does it stress you out to even think about what everyone is going to say when they find out?

Do you forget about all your responsibilities and people depending on you, whilst breaking loose?

Honestly I don’t know. Because believe you me all these motivational posters and quotes gets old really quickly!

I don’t think anyone has the secret to a happy and care free life. I believe if you are happy, the people around you will be happy and the struggles and problems you are facing today are only building character.

I promise you, this too shall pass and it will only make you stronger!

So do what is best for you and the rest will fall into place. Use your life for your own happiness.

Stay Strong!!!

Welcome back to each and every one!

This month we have our eyes firmly set on, WAIT FOR IT:  “TECHNOLOGY”.

We all know that scary, T-word that’s pushing us into the depths of depression and despair.  A dark cloud normally descends over me and my life and my surroundings, when the BLACK BOX of utter desperation, uselessness and self-confidence killer is opened!

Even the most educated amongst us will be found/rendered helpless when the most basic of technologies malfunctions occur.61327821 stock vector vector creative illustration of technology word lettering typography with line icons and tag cloud o

The natural instinct or reaction is to lock up and go home, postpone the pain or pray for divine intervention.

The anticipation when the shut-down to restart process initiated is overshadowed by the total and utter disappointment when the abovementioned process fails to render positive results.

Why? Who?, Where?, When?,

Youngsters, IT Specialists, Clever Technicians … where will we be without them?

A whole new generation – we welcome you; your natural aptitude is all of our biggest hearts desires. Grab the future with both hands,

Welcome back everyone and a special welcome to our first time visitors

I trust that everyone has settled into a brand new routine that incorporates all the recently decided upon, new year’s resolutions!!!!

Did you choose that one resolution for 2019 and are you sticking to it?

I find it so difficult to change my ways…even it is for a great new year’s or an excellent new project.

I suppose the key to be successful would be

1.) The strength of the MOTIVATION or the trigger or driving force behind the new plan.

2.) The details of the PROJECT PLANNING that we can easily do at work, but very seldom apply it closer to home.

3.) The existence of MEASURABLE Targets or goals to push and pull our minds, bodies and consciences into action.

4.) The clarity of the VISIONS of the FUTURE

In the end it is the established fact, the result or outcome that matters…

Not Reasons

No Excuses

Not Stories

Not Motives

May each one experience the satisfaction of a target reached and a goal accomplished!!

May work satisfaction and intrinsic motivation be abundant! May you have a super year to look back on with gratitude and the knowing that you did the BEST you could – even if your BEST might not be the same every day!!!

Good, Better, Best. Never let it rest. ‘Til your good is better and your better is best
