2.  Sunrise to Sunset Magalies Biosphere 100km Woman's Walk 17021802 206421299835337 8799996179139204808 n

Come and join us in this unique opportunity to explore and enjoy the beautiful UNESCO sanctioned Magaliesberg Biosphere, The Mountains of Wonder.

This unique 100km Women’s Walk will happen over 4 days, covering different areas and geological sites in the Magaliesberg Biosphere. The 4 routes will cover an average of 25km per day. You will be required to carry only your daypack with water and snacks for the day. Busses will transfer participants to the starting point every morning and return to central accommodation in Rustenburg at night.

 

1. sts  Sunrise to Sunset 100km Magalies Biopshere Women’s Walk 2019 over 4 days 18th – 21rd March 2021 – Opening Function: March 17th 2020                                             

       

  • Arrival and introduction night, Tuesday, March 17th 2019 at 17h00
  • Wednesday 18th – Saturday 21rd the participants will be walking through the UNESCO registered Magalies Biosphere, averaging 25km per day over the 4 days.
  • The Closing Ceremony with dignitaries in the Tourism Industry, will be held at 16h00 on Saturday 23th March 2019.
  • Participants may also choose to walk only some of the days at a specific rate where meals, T-shirt and Transport is included.

  Background

Sunrise to Sunset was initiated by a group of enthusiastic ladies from RATA (NPC) based on the success of the magnificent Lighthouse 2 Lighthouse concept in the Western Cape. This walk was specifically designed to showcase the diversity of the Magaliesberg Biosphere and enable access to areas otherwise not accessible to the public. It also creates awareness of the existing hiking trails, accommodation establishments, entertainment facilities and natural environment of our area.

  Fundraising

As RATA (NPC) we have recognized the need for events in our area, we are creating some! At the same time we have the need to generate funds for our non-profit Company to channel back into the Tourism Industry. RATA has been in existence for more than 18 years and is passionate about growing and giving back!

The funds created by this event will be channeled into RATA non-profit Company and every cent will be used to develop the Tourism Industry of this area.

Many projects are run by RATA (NPC):

  1. Develop young and upcoming Tourism businesses and create jobs in the industry.
  2. Run Collaborative Marketing initiatives for the RATA (NPC) members that assist tourists and visitors to gain information on activities and accommodation in our area.
  3. Create infrastructure, such as information signs, road markings, Magaliesberg Biosphere route markings.
  4. Create Tourism related products and packages around the Magaliesberg Biosphere to boost the economic growth.
  5. Keep our support to different charities going. (eg: Thlolego Village, Fodisa Projects, Touch Community)

Additional Services:

Every day on completion of the hike, ice bucket stations(free), massage stations, as well as a hairdresser, will be available between 16h00 and 18h00. Bookings essential.

2 Single beds per room sharing, in B&B and Guest Houses in Rustenburg, Bo-dorp.

DSTv with business bouquet, fully functional kitchenettes with micro wave and bar fridge, shower/bath, linen and towels provided. If you prefer to share with someone specific, please provide their names and contact details in your entry form.

Please book in early on the 20th of March and make use of the shuttle service provided.

Snack shop:

A snack shop will be available at the central accommodation facility from 16h00 to 19h30 each night. Bring enough cash to buy chocolates, chips, cold drinks or our House favorite; NUY Cellar wines.

Meals:

Dinner will be on site at Ons Dorpshuis Guest House or off-site at one of RATA (NPC) members’ Restaurants between 18h00 and 20h00. The bus will transport all there and back. All arrangements for the next day’s walk will be handled during dinnertime.  Breakfast will be at the starting point of each day where there will also be an opportunity to pack lunch boxes.

Recommended fitness level: (7/10) (Age 20 - 70 yrs)

Steep inclines will require cardio vascular fitness as well as leg strength.

Routes vary from level surfaces, to rocky areas. 

  

Maximum available spaces for the fourth year of this event are 68!

Rhenosterhoek Private Bush Camp is the ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle.  It is approximately 80km from Johannesburg and 120km (via N4) from Pretoria in the buffer zone of the magnificent Magaliesberg Biosphere close to Rustenburg Boons.

It is ideal for families with children.  Enjoy the experience of real life camping in nature, but without the necessity of owning all the camping gear and tents.

The option of open our bath and shower makes life interesting.

Bring hiking gear to explore 5km to 7km trails amongst stone ruins from the 1600’s.

Take the kids to fetch eggs from our free range chicken hotel to use for your Breakfasts.

If you are looking for a creative, different setting for your next, training session, private meeting or function then Ons Dorpshuis is the place to be.

Our function coordination team, consisting of the chef as well as the housekeeping administrator, will assist you in creating something “wow” around your normal business operations.

Ideally, centrally situated in Rustenburg close to the civic centre, we prefer small to medium size groups. We cater in most cases for one group at a time, meaning that you have our undevided attention for the entire duration of your session.  Our Dining Room  can accommodate 10 to 20 delegates respectively when organising training styles and a few more delegates with cinema style.

We have most electronic and other equipment available, as well as an overhead projector to rent.

Meals and theme functions are arranged with the chef and function coordinator to suite your specific needs.

Our Introduction

Since 2000 we have worked hard to establish and grow Ons Dorpshuis Guest House from only a few Self Catering units to a combined mix of 47 different three and four star graded rooms.

We are currently an established and well-known brand in Rustenburg and we are proud to be affiliated with the UNESCO Registered Biosphere.  We have succeeded to find the balance between giving our guests either a luxurious stay in our four star graded guest houses or a more practical budget stay in our three star graded self-catering apartments.

All our facilities, rooms and houses have a definite “WOW” factor but simultaneously provide a place that makes each person feel right at home.  You will be greeted with a well-dressed, well trained and friendly face at reception and also be transported in our newly branded vehicles.

We have been complimented on our creativity and unexpected practical approach to everything!  We have recently revamped our courtyard to make it softer on the eye and universally accessible for everyone.

Guests now can buy something for the sweet tooth at our Candy Corner Shop and then head towards our well stocked library.  You can either relax with a good book or enjoy the sun by the pool or work of some of the stress in our gym.  The art lovers will feel at home amongst the many original artworks.  This live exhibition includes paintings, sculptures and welded metal landscape art pieces by our local artist Hannatjie Visser.         

 The majority of our guests are people travelling to Rustenburg to work in the area. We are however perfectly situated to accommodate guests, travelling between South Africa, Botswana and Namibia.  

Due to our close proximity to Gauteng as well as pleasant northwest weather, we are also the answer to weekend and leisure guests, looking for a reasonable price and an interesting place to stay.  You now have the opportunity to make use of our Weekend Package deal that gives you a reason to explore Rustenburg and all it has to offer.

Together with RATA, Ons Dorpshuis has launched a new community project to help make the streets of Rustenburg more accessible to Tourists.  We place newly painted street names on the corners of the designated streets in easy view of passing motorists.  Ons Dorpshuis is also the proud accommodation sponsor for the very first RARA Sunrise to Sunset 100km Magaliesberg Biosphere Woman’s Walk. 

To put a cherry on a very large Ons Dorpshuis Cake we present our new established BEE Company, La Rona Hospitality Services, which is a registered company with a workers trust, rewarding loyalty of our hardworking and dedicated employees.
